KIYANA GORDON has finally found a quiet corner to herself. With her recent rise in popularity since establishing a successful YouTube channel, she has felt like her life has been moving 100 miles per hour. Near constant content, keeping up with endorsements, and all of the people that now want to be her “friend”, she’s doesn’t exactly know how to feel. She’s happy that people know who she is and that she’s making money, but her life is starting to feel out of control.

She crept off after fighting her way out of school through a crowd and walked around to the library hoping to catch a break. She is relieved to find that no one is really there and she revels in the moment’s peace, knowing that soon she’ll have to get back to work and back to people. She feels as if she is being watched, but she is most of the time so she just ignores it.

KIYANA

I don’t know. You’re all at the top of the class. Practically runnin’ everything. I wouldn’t think you had the time to keep up with my stuff.

JAYDEN

Season 3 Ep. 3 – The Target

Welcome as Tales Of The Text Podcast presents “The Target”. Khyree, star high school basketball player, is celebrating a game winning shot when he suddenly is approached by a police officer after becoming a person of interest in the death of his girlfriend Ronnie. Did he do it or is someone else to blame?

Then the door opens, startling Khyree. An officer waves him out of the room. Khyree gets up hesitantly. When Khyree walks out, he sees NIA filling out some paperwork. A rush of relief comes over Khyree.

KHYREE

Nia! Thank you so much for coming.

NIA

Yeah, of course, Khyree! Are you okay?(hushed tone)

Did they hurt you?

KHYREE

(hushed tone)

Nah, I’m good. But let’s not talk

here.

NARRATOR

Nia finishes filing the paperwork and grabs Khyree’s hand, and they exit the station. They hop in Nia’s car, and they drive off.

INT. CAR – NIGHT – OUTSIDE KHYREE’S HOME

NARRATOR (CONT’D)

They drive in silence for what seems an eternity. The music relieves some of the tension, but not much. As they pull up and arrive at Khyree’s home, Nia turns down the music and puts the car in park. Khyree’s attention is fixated on his hands, his breathing is shallow, and he’s trying to compose himself. Nia puts her hand on Khyree’s knee, he is startled by her touch, as he was lost in thought.

NIA

(trepidation)

Khyree… Are we going to talk about this?

Season 3 Episode 2 – The Recording

SHANI, 16-year-old high school student, sits horrified, mind racing only a bit faster than her heartbeat. She is in an abandoned classroom in the school, listening to her iPad. At only 5 feet tall, her feet swing off of the ground in the tall stools. She twists her braids in her hand nervously, feeling glad that she is wearing black. She feels less visible. It is like her worst nightmare come true. She listens in disbelief, hoping against hope that she is mistaken about what she heard. But she knows what it is. All over social media are words that she knows well because they come from her very own recordings. She wants to die.

As she sits dazed, not wanting to listen, but not able to stop, 17-year-old TY comes bursting into the room. Tall and thin, he is wearing his professional attire for dress to impress day. He runs his hand across his waves and turns on SHANI.

Welcome as Tales Of The Text Podcast presents “The Recording”. Have you ever used voice memo and just walked away or have you ever secretly recorded your friends?

TY

It was you, wasn’t it?

SHANI

What??

TY

It was you. You recorded us. It had to be you. Nobody else was anywhere around.

SHANI

I don’t know what-

TY

Don’t lie. You’re sitting here listening to it with that look on your face. Obviously somebody got ahold of your stuff.

SHANI

Listen, I’m sorry, okay. I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.

TY

It doesn’t matter because it is. I could get into serious trouble. I am the president of the student council. I’m supposed to be on track for Ivy League. I can’t have my business out in the street.

SHANI

It’s not just your stuff. This is my stuff that got violated. It’s bad enough that it was stolen, but now all of this stuff is coming out.

TY

Why did you make these recordings? Were you going to blackmail people or something?

SHANI

No! I would never do that.

TY

So what was the point?

SHANI

You wouldn’t understand.

TY

Try me. You owe me an explanation.

SHANI

Okay, okay. It’s just…I’m a writer, okay? I just use the stuff for my stories. That’s it. No one was ever supposed to know where I got the stuff from.

Season 3 Episode 1 – The Collective

Trevor sits at his desk working on his English homework. As he is writing his essay suddenly his desktop monitor goes black. A cryptic message appears on Trevor’s screen explaining that he has been monitored by a student-operated secret society called… ‘The Collective’.

The Collective allegedly needs Trevor’s talents on their sports team and instructs him that he MUST NOT tell anybody about the secret organization. Trevor is understandably spooked about the message and things only get worse as he is drawn into a world of secrets and sinister intentions. Join us on this episode of Tales of the Text as we explore the creepy underworld of secret societies in…’The Collective’.

FADE IN:

INT. TREVOR’S BEDROOM – NIGHT

Trevor sits at his desk working on his English homework. As he’s writing his essay, suddenly, his desktop monitor goes black.

TREVOR

What the fuck?

Trevor fumbles with his computer mouse and keyboard trying to find any sort of life on his desktop.

As he is about to give up, the letter “c” written in red and gold appears on his screen for a brief second before disappearing.

After the letter “c” disappears, a message displays that reads:

MESSAGE

Trevor Hilton, for the past four years, The Collective, which is a talented group of teens based in Baltimore, has been watching you excel in your high school career. The goal of the Collective is to help teens like yourself achieve excellence in every endeavor. We NEED you and your talents on our sports team, and we have connections to get you to Ohio. However, don’t look for us. When you are ready, we will find you. Also, Trevor, for the safety of you and your loved ones, discretion is vital. DO NOT tell anyone outside the Collective about this message.

After reading the message, Trevor’s monitor turns back on.

The essay Trevor was working on has been deleted and replaced with a completed one.

TREVOR

Oh, hell naw!

Trevor picks up his phone and calls his friend Maleik.

It’s late night and JESSICA is in bed. The moon shines bright through her bedroom window. It’s cold outside and the leaves have all fallen from the trees. Hanging tree branches tap at Jessica’s window lightly causing her to stir, but not wake.

On her night stand next to her bed sits a glass of water and her cell phone. A cool breeze seeps into the room causing Jessica to shiver a little and her curtains to move. Then a woman’s voice whispers, “make them pay” in Jessica’s ear. To find out more put your headphones on to hear the drama, secrets, and plot twists as Tales of the Text presents Sister’s Keeper.

INT. SCHOOL BATHROOM – DAY
Jessica flushes the toilet before washing her hands. At the
sink, she shivers as a cold breeze sweeps through her
space.

GIRL
(whisper)
Jessica…

Jessica gasps as she looks around to find nowhere there.

JESSICA
Dre, is that you?

There’s no response. Jessica turns the faucet off and when she glances in the mirror, she sees writing on the mirror that reads: make them pay.

JESSICA
What the fuck?

Jessica runs out the bathroom and bumps into her best friend, Dre.

Dre
Whoa, where’s the fire?

JESSICA
(panting)
The mirror…look at the mirror.

Dre
And what exactly was I looking for?
Jessica pushes past Dre.

JESSICA
It was right there.

Season 2 Episode 6 – Wrapped In Crazy

I never wanted to hurt him. But I told him that I loved him, and he disrespected that so, I had to set the tone. He started it. He wanted me and now he has me.

It all started Tuesday. I was working my shift at The Westbrook Movie Theater when Antonio came in. I knew him from school, we had a couple classes together. He was so fine. He wasn’t really my type, but I figured I’d make an exception for him. He was Puerto Rican and Black with curly hair and this smile that stopped everything. He could dress too. The only problem was he was with some girl from the school. She wasn’t competition though. You see, I always get what I want, and I wanted Antonio. They came to see a movie as a date. It was cute. Antonio came over to buy popcorn and snacks.

Antonio looked me up and down, licked his lips, and chuckled. Now, I knew this look. I’m a pretty girl. Actually, pretty is probably being a little humble but whatever. The look was one of interest, I guess you can say I had him in the bag.

JASMINE

Hey, Antonio, right?

ANTONIO

(grinning)

Oh, hey! Jasmine, right?

JASMINE

(laughs)

Looks like someone’s on a date.

ANTONIO

Well, I guess. She’s hella lame, honestly. I’m ready to go home.

JASMINE

I mean, if you would’ve asked me instead you wouldn’t be in this predicament.

ANTONIO looks at JASMINE hungrily, licking his lips with a chuckle. Nothing happens that night, but it is only a few weeks before they begin dating. NARRATOR: After that night the two are together constantly. One night in particular JASMINE and ANTONIO sit in his car outside of her empty house.

JASMINE

Baby, come inside with me please?

ANTONIO

Babe, it’s getting la-

Before he can finish, Jasmine starts kissing him soft and sweetly, getting more aggressive as she feels him getting more into it. The two make their way inside to her room. As she begins to undress, he looks at her body with hunger.

JASMINE

Wait, do you have a condom?

ANTONIO

Damn…no.

JASMINE

Jasmine is already prepared. She reaches over to her nightstand and pulls out a condom for him. When it is all over, they lay in her bed in each other’s arms.

Curious about Lynette’s mysterious solitary ways, popular athlete Troy takes an interest in her. He tries to connect with Lynette but then realizes he may have gotten more than he can handle- Tales of the Text presents “Deadly Crush”.

KISHA

Ugh, why don’t she just go sit in
the bathroom or something.

Kisha’s friends all turn to look at Lynette.

TROY

Damn, Why does she bother you so
much?
Troy chews his food.

KISHA

Question is, why don’t she bother
you?

Troy looks over at Lynette who is staring out the window.
Seconds later, Troy gets up.

KISHA (CONT’D)

Excuse me, and where the hell you
going?

Troy ignores Kisha and walks over to where Lynette is
sitting.
His sneakers against the floor make a sticky sound.
Lynette is dressed in all black with with several piercings:
eyebrow, lip, nose and several up the ear.

TROY

What’s so interesting?

Troy sits down. Kisha and her friends do not approve.

LYNETTE
(confused)
Uh…I think you got the wrong
table.
Troy chuckles.

Girl, stop trippin. You just tryna hurry up and get there so you can see Tremaine.

Ain’t nobody thinking about Tremaine

Narrator

Unique’s voice cracked a little at the lie and she began to blush. She hated to admit it, but she had been ready to go ever since she had found out that Tremaine was going to be there. Unique was never much for kickbacks, but to hang around him, she could make the exception. But she would not give Imani the satisfaction of admitting it.

Unique

Can you just finish your makeup in there so we can go? I’m giving you 20 more minutes.

Narrator

Imani knew not to play with Unique so she rushed off to finish her makeup. 10 minutes later she comes out of the bathroom.

How did you become a vampire?

JANEICE

My dad. He was cheating on my mama with one and she turned him. Then he thought it was so cool and decided to turn the whole family. He only got to me and mama before she killed him.

TREY and KIMIKO look at their phones.

KIMIKO

Nope. Still no bars.

TREY

Yeah I got nothing.

RAVEN

If we’re going the wrong way, when I get a signal we can use my GPS.

KIMIKO

I can’t wait until we get to the cabin. It’s gonna be so romantic.

Candle lit dinner, take a walk along the lake.

TREY

Watch all 86 channels of sports.

CJ laughs as KIMIKO reaches from the backseat and hits TREY on the shoulder.

KIMIKO

No TV.

RAVEN

Exactly, this is suppose to be a weekend for

us to enjoy each other. Right CJ?

CJ

Yeah bae… until ya’ll fall asleep.

TREY laughs as both Raven and KIMIKO hit CJ in the arm and laugh.

KIMIKO

Does anybody have any idea where we are?

RAVEN

I don’t know but y’all gonna have to figure it out. cuz it’s too damn dark.

I can’t see shit but trees.

KIMIKO and RAVEN continue to look out of the window. Raven spots a little girl on the side of the road. She appears to be crying.

RAVEN

CJ, do you see that lil girl?

This journey with Micah & Derek has been like a rollercoaster ride! One day they’re just best friends and then they realize that they have been hiding their true feelings from one another. In other words they want to be more than friends. Of course things become even more messy once Derek’s girlfriend Tiffany announces that she’s pregnant! Put your headphones, share with friends, and let us know in the comments what you would do in this situation. Is Derek being manipulative? Should Micah just move on?

Micah remains stunned by the news. She has so many emotions; hurt, confusion, disappointment, and anger being most among them. She tries to catch herself. She works hard not to betray her emotions on her face. She looks at Tiffany as if she couldn’t care less.

MICAH (sarcastically)

Congratulations on your new baby.

Before Tiffany can say anything else, Micah turns and walks away. Her heart is heavy in her chest and she doesn’t know what to do. She thinks about her time with Derek and how much it had meant to her before. She knew that was all done. It had to be. Derek was going to be a father. Whatever they were going to be would have to fall off.

She didn’t say anything to Derek. She did not trust herself to keep her emotions in check. Derek won’t stop blowing her phone up. She just ignores him. She feels like it is best to just try to forget what happened and at this point she isn’t even sure of their friendship.

One day as Micah is leaving her place she finds herself standing face to face with Derek.

Micah

“G tell me why the fuck Tiffany texting me.”

Micah narration

Even after the night we’d just had, this text just threw me all the way off. Tiffany has never contacted me before so I didn’t know why, especially now that they aren’t together.

Derek

“you lying.”

Micah

“no I’m deadass serious! Why is she calling me!? Where the fuck did she get my number from g! You know I hate that wack ass-“

Derek

“aye look! I ain’t give her your number if that’s what you asking. It’s your birthday trip I wouldn’t do no shit like that.”

Micah narration

By that time I was already near his face so his slipping his arms around me for reassurance was easy. He kissed me again.

Micah

“But Derek you know damned well I don’t-“

Derek

“Yes I know you don’t like drama. So just forget about it. It’s supposed to be yo birthday, you gone let a bird make you mad?”

D: “Wazzam.”

I FaceTimed Derek as I opened my last duffel bag. We were staying for a week so I need to come prepared. That meant heels, flats, sandals, sneakers, tank tops, shorts, dresses, allat.

M: “We have three days leeefft! And then we’ll be on the beach in Ochos Rios.”

D: “You gone be on the beach, I already told you I gone go get in between some lil Jamaican shorty’s cheeks.”

M: “nigga.”

D: “G you know I’m playing. But have you started packing yet?”

M: “Yup Yup.”

D: “and how many swimsuits did you pack?”

M: “seven.”

D: “girl! You are not gone be on the beach the entire time.”

M: “alright I’ll take one out.”

After Micah’s disappointing birthday celebration her best friend Derek decided to surprise her with her 3 favorite things. It seems like everything is going great between them until Micah realizes that she’s crushin’ on Derek and just when Micah thinks they can be more than friends she receives a text message from Derek. READ THE DIALOGUE BELOW AFTER YOU GET TO THE END OF THE STORY! We had some technical difficulties with the audio at the end.

Micah: “Derek stop.”

Derek: “Wassup man, you ain’t never acted like this before-“

Micah: “I can’t do this.”

Derek: “Do what?”

Micah: “Be all laid up on the couch like that. I gotta go.”

Derek: “But before Tiffany that’s what we always did. What’s changed?”

I took a long pause before I opened my mouth, but after all my emotions have been through this summer I had to let it out. I sat back down on the couch beside him before saying anything.

Micah: “I think I like you. No I know I like you. I can’t get you off my mind, and it’s become more than just you being my best friend now. Like in a relationship way. And I don’t want to but I can’t help the
way you make me feel. It hurt when y’all got back together and I got used to not feeling this way, but I’m not gonna sit here and let my messy ass emotions start up again. So I gotta go.”

Derek: ”You don’t gotta go. Like, so are you saying you wanna be with me type shit or like you just like me.”

Micah: “I don’t know Derek. But I honestly don’t think it’s a good idea for us to keep this up. It’s not healthy.” I got up to leave but he pulled me back down.

Derek: “Look I don’t know what to really say. Like I never looked at you like that. And I just got out of a relationship so I don’t wanna hop right back into another one. Damn man.”

I just started crying. I was overwhelmed by all the emotions that came forth at once. I was angry, frustrated, worried, and relieved all at the same time. But still hopeful that he would say the right
things.

Derek: “Micah don’t cry. Please don’t cry.” He grabbed me and I started crying even harder. “Why we just can’t be cool?”

Micah: “G I don’t know. We cannot be friends like this and me still liking you.”

Derek: “No we can still be friends g it’s not that serious. I care about you a lot I can’t just give up on you like that.” He grabbed me again and as my face hit his chest, and his arms wrapped around me
securely I cried knowing that this had to be the end.

Derek: “We don’t have to put a label on nothing Micah. I love you and you know that I’m gone always be here for you.”

Micah:

All I could think was ‘this nigga tweaking’. I wiped the smile off my face as I crossed the street to get on the bus back home.

It was my best friend’s birthday next week, so I thought I should start off the celebration with giving him his favorite drink, a milkshake.

We’ve been homies for a while, about a year to be exact. I don’t know exactly how, but we eventually became best friends a few months ago. I mean we tell each other everything. To him, I’m one of the guys, to me he’s like a brother.

I mean don’t get me wrong. Derrick is fine. I mean 6’8, dark skinned, funny, allat. But that’s just my bro.

Micah texted him back not long after reading his message. She typed it out as “I love you too g.” But by the time I sent It as “Love you too”. She didn’t want him to read that and feel anything more than what she meant.

After stopping at her house, Micah headed to a plaza close by to finish Derek’s birthday shopping. She hadn’t gotten him anything and was a little pressed about it.

Jason and Sasha are high school sweethearts. One day Jason notices something about his girlfriend that concerns him and when he decides to investigate further he discovers that Sasha is keeping a secret from him.

Ext. Sasha’s HOUSE – AFTER SCHOOL

Jason is standing at Sasha’s door with hot chicken and rice soup and crackers he got from a local diner. He rings the doorbell. Moments later Sasha answers the door. She’s wearing a jacket and a tank top. Jason can see the hint of bruising on the shoulder of her tank strap.

Jason

Hey I got you some soup.

Sasha

Why aren’t you at practice? Dad will be furious that his star player isn’t at practice.

JASON

Yeah, well my sick girlfriend is far more important than some measly basketball practice. There’ll be others.

Sasha laughs.

Jason hands her the bag of soup.

Sasha takes the soup and closes the door.

Jason stops the door with his hand again.

Jason

I thought since I did a noble deed that I could come in.

Sasha overreacts.

Sasha

No! You can’t come in while dad isn’t here.

Jason looks confused.

Jason

Since when? We use to hang out all the time while your ol’ man was away. What’s going on? You’ve been acting really strange lately. First the text, acting distant and missing school. You don’t even look remotely sick by the way.

Sasha

I’m acting the same as I always have. You’re the one acting weird. Questioning my every move and trying to get me in trouble.

Jason

I’m not trying to get you in trouble. I just want to see you. I’m sorry.

Sasha

Yeah well. Thank you for the soup, but I gotta go.

Sasha shuts the door in his face again. Jason steps away.

Jason

(to himself)
